Vision Vitality® MAX is specifically formulated to increase the levels of lutein and zeaxanthin which accumulates in the macula, increasing macular pigment opacity density (MPOD). Macular pigment is the yellow pigment in the retina, and is comprised of the carotenoids lutein, lutein esters, meso zeaxanthin and zeaxanthin. For the health of the retina, macular pigment is crucial in the filtering of damaging blue light and also functions as an antioxidant to further maintain retina health. Further research shows strong correlation between lutein / zeaxanthin and brain function.

Macular Pigment Opacity Density (MOPD): High MOPD levels play a significant role in both eye health and performance as well as in brain health.

  • MOPD Complex in VISION VITALITY MAX     > 50mg
      Lutein > 30 mg  MesoZeaxanthin > 10 mg  Trans Zeaxanthin > 2 mg
  • High MOPD levels protect the Retina and other Ocular Cells from Oxidative Damage thereby offering protection against Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).
  •  Low MOPD levels is thought to be a significant risk factor for AMD development and progression. Furthermore,  low levels of macular pigment are also seen in Alzheimer's Disease patients.
  • Macular Pigment filters short wave blue light (400-500 nm) - the light which can damage the retina. Modern day electronics, including smart phones and LED televisions and lighting, emit high levels of bluelight.
  • Macular Pigment also filters damaging blue light and UV light from Sun.
  • Higher levels of MOPD support improved visual performance in normal vision including shortening of photo stress recovery time and reducing glare discomfort.
  • In the brain, increased macular pigment is associated with increased cognitive processing speed in older adults with mild cognition deficits.
  • Macular carotenoids may reduce psychological stress and the stress hormone cortisol. Such stress is responsible for depression and anxiety.
  • In healthy young subjects, increases in macular pigment resulted in faster visual processing - indicating a cognitive benefit even in younger individuals.
  • Diabetics which expose the retina to conditions of hyperglcemia, experience significant levels of damaging oxidative stress which may be reduced  by increase macular pigments.

Studies have correlated MPO with greater protection of the eye and improved vision performance. Furthermore, increased MCO in the retina is beleived to be a reflection of the amount which is deposited in the brain.

  • UVB radiation induced damage of the retinal pigment epithelium has been experimentally shown to be mitigated by pretreatment with lutein, zeaxanthin and anthocyanins.

MESO- ZEAXANTHIN

  • Most powerful antioxidant of the three eye carotenoids (including lutein)
  • Significantly enhances macular pigment in the eye, when included with lutein and zeaxanthin. Vision Vitality contains approximately 20mg of Meso-Zeaxanthin in a 200 mg complex for strong protection.
