Smart Phones - New Threats to Vision

As the world becomes more mobile, electronic devices have become essential in everyday life. However, the LED (Light Emitting Diode) screens of devices, including smartphones, computer screens, tablets and televisions, emit very high levels of blue light. The problem: blue light is very destructive to the retina of the eye, and may contribute to the development of AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration). In comparison, blue light produces 100 times more light induced retinal damage versus orange light. Higher levels of lutein and zeaxanthin in the retina, which are very effective in absorbing toxic blue light, can help block this damage. Furthermore, the  higher the macular density of these carotenoids the more effective the protection. VISION VITALITY™ contains high levels of lutein (35 mg) and zeaxanthin which promotes significant protection of the retina.
